| Jeff, the guy I read about had an old shovel-head that he had put a bunch of work into. If I remember right, he had a split in the fuel line that leaked... I don't remember all the details. But, the message came through loud and clear...

| Dave, Ref.. POOF up in flames, The bud we rode out West with this Summer has a neighbor who bought a new '05 Softail Deluxe a cuple yrs ago. Just this Summer he had done nothing to the bike and always kept it in his shed by his house. My buds wife noticed some smoke and smell coming from the neighbors shed.. HIs bike's computer apparently caught fire, ( Very weird) no one around locked up, he was at work.. Had it not been for my buds wife the shed and and house would of no doubt burnt up too... The Motor Co paid him off, a total loss, he went out and bought a new Jap bike just last week I was told.... Still don't know why the Softail caught fire??? a mystery

Thats what I like the most about Harleys.... You can always re-rez-erect them LOL! and usually don't cost a fortune either....
Ref: Preacher hard tail, I think your right on about the comfortable pocket... My legs are long, bro n laws hard tail is too low to the ground for me and the bars are too far away- too long a reach for my liking. I would have to to extend the bars and the pegs to be comfy.......

Hey Abo, I think that sometime today, I'm gonna pop the bitch seat on with the sissy bar and set the OL on the back and go for a ride...LOL... I know she's been sayin' that she wished the bike was runnin' the past few weekends. The weather has been nice and would've been great for a ride...
Yeah, "new" is nice, even if it's rebuilt, it's still nice! I love the way it runs. Will be REAL glad when I get through the break in so I can get on it.
Engine looks real nice too! Nice and pretty. Almost looks like I have new barrels and cases on it. Even the cases and rocker-boxes are shining! LOL...

Jeffy:
re: hardtail. How I do it..
I start the bike, roll it out of the garage, put on my helmet, sit down on the seat, put my right foot up on the peg, turn on the lights, pull in the clutch, kick it into 1st gear, clutch out, left foot up, and steer...
gee...didnt seem like it was that hard to understand...ROFMBO
actually: I haven't had a suspended bike since 1986, except for my 8 month adventure into softail frame land. (bad idea).
I am so used to it, it doesnt bother me at all. Also, like Indian larry said,
"If the pocket aint right, it wont ever be a good rider"
the pocket being the relationship between bars, pegs and seat.
The pocket on Grunt is dead on the money perfect.
Try this on yer bro-in laws scooter: block it up under the frame so you can pick your feet up without falling over. sit down on it, close your eyes, and reach for the bars and put your feet on the pegs at the same time. I will bet you are gonna miss one or the other, which means the pocket aint right and that is why you are so uncomfortable.
If you DON'T miss, then it aint comfortable cause you done went and got spoiled riding a sofa...lol
RSDF
DISCLAIMER: Ain't nothin in the world wrong with a suspension frame, I just dont have one, aint looking for one in the near future. Like they say, ya ride what ya like, and like what ya ride.

Ok, it's back. Runs strong too. The cam change made a big difference in it. I haven't taken it up fast or hard enough to really find out. But, it wants to run! Can just feel it. Sounds really good. OL says it isn't as loud. But, I wasn't on it as hard as normal either.
He gave me a 1 year or 10K mile warranty. As long as I bring it back to him for the 500 mile check up and keep the speed/rpm down.
Here's something I find strange, the tach is working perfectly. When it went in, the tach was really erratic. Couldn't tell exactly how fast the engine was turning. Now, its just like it was with the OEM ignition system. Rock solid. Now, I just gotta install the new speedo cable.
But, it's home and running again! Nice and clean engine, no oil leaks, no smoking, and it runs smooth as can be with the cam. You can hear the cam. The engine has a nice lope to it. They even cleaned the bike up nice and pretty for me too. AND even filled the tank with fresh gas! (found out when I stopped for gas and it didn't need any, wouldn't take any either! LOL)
Weather is gonna be great today. S'posed to be in the 80s again. So, after I get my "Honee-Doos" done (Yardwork, etc.) I'm plannin' on gettin' a few miles on it.
One thing I didn't do last night, was park it inside my car-port. Just in case something was AFU and it started a fire, I wanted out in the open so that it would be the only thing that burned. I saw on another board where a guy had just gone through his and started it in the garage and walked away after he shut it down. *POOF* up in flames...

| I'm going to pick up my bro n laws Chopper Evo this evening... He had a new S&S oil pump put in.. He didn't like the the low oil pressure HD oil pump, also the mechanic discovered a couple lifters had c-clips that were not attached right were rattling so he fixed that problem.... Should be good to go.. I'm gonna rider home this evening.
