Hey Carl, that's something I've noticed whenever I've been in Nebraska. (Rural areas and drunks) Namely, me. When I'm back there, I've usually got a pretty good buzz goin' by the time I decide to head back to the hotel or whichever relative's house I'm stayin' at for the night. But, the streets and roads are so lightly patrolled, there's very little chance of getting nailed for a DUI.
Seriously, the town I go to, has one county cop that might roll through once a day and maybe one time at night. Otherwise, you never see the guy. If I'm stayin' in town, the odds of getting nailed are almost zero. If I'm in the hotel, I can do back-roads all the way over to it. It's in another "City". Same thing, even when I've been sober, it's pretty rare to see a cop...
Tail-gaters are the easiest (and the most dangerous) to deal with. Lately, I've been carrying a bunch of marbles when I ride. Purely a defensive tactic. Get someone ridin' my ass, and a few marbles go over my shoulder. (Sparkplugs, change, pebbles, etc. all work too) Doesn't happen often and I don't recommend doing it. Because, ya gotta be ready to haul-ass after ya toss 'em. The tail-gater is gonna be pissed and may try to chase ya down and do something a lot worse than tailgate. Here in So Cal that can include the possibility of gun fire...

Use to be like that around here but over the last year or two they have been setting up DUI stops on the back roads and getting a lot of people....I ride a few times a year with a local cop and the word is "get them"...A friend of Jacque's recently had Grand Jury duty and there was no mercy on DUI, child abuse and spousal abuse...People just won't tolerate it and don't want to hear it anymore...Can't say I blame them...I know there are many times that I should not have been on the road...Nothing happened thank God...Now we take turns driving...

In my opinion, people are usually on the phone in their car when they run lights and get in accidents. I see people all the time blast through lights with their hand up to the ear. The other problem is drunks. I live in a rural area, and see drunks weaving around the roads. I would imagine these drunks being on cell phones would be the worst.
Tailgaters...man, I see cars on bike asses all the time. My Harley misfires and farts once and a while.......I would probably get rear ended if that happened with an asshole 10 feet from my rear tire.
Always sad to hear one fall...........seems rare that it is the bikers fault nowdays.

Jeff hit it on the head.......everyone is in a hurry these days! People are rushing for everything....and noone cares much about anyone else either. We have turned into a very selfish animal. And its really sad.
WE have a customer who asked us to cut a big ole star for the back of his helmet.....and on the back of his bike it says "State Patrol'n" He got tired of ppl tailgating him, and rushing past him, and cutting him off. It makes them slow down a bit.....thinking its a cop.....

| Randy I agree with you on this one........MY Road Glide is paint Metallic Green.....real close to the color the sheriffs bikes around here are........It amazing how many people slow down when I come up from behind them or along side them.........With my Dyna or Shovel hell I can be parked on there hood and they wouldn't slow down.......... | Im sorry to hear of another downed biker. I dont belive the "I didnt see them" bullshit. I heard of a guy who took a geezer glide and painted it to look like a police bike. He drove it for two years and he said its amazing how cars were slowing down and driving right when they saw him, cause they thought it was a cop. So to me that just shoots the " I didnt see him" out the window........

I think another reason for all the speed is that cars perform much better these days and so many of these people think everything is a race.

Sorry to hear about another biker down. Damn, you'd think that with as many bikes around and the popularity of them in the past few years, people would pay more attention.
At least they're charging the driver. That may wake 'em up a bit...

| Another biker was killed here in town yesterday. That makes 3 this summer in a city of only 80 thousand people. And for the 3rd time this summer, a auto driver was charged in the death. When the hell will people wake up and actually "see" us on the road. This is not counting the dozens of other accidents that the riders managed to live thru. It's getting so that my O.L. is scared to get on her bike and go on the street. Fucking bullshit.
