| I always wanted to swim with the dolphins.......but never had the urge to swim with stingrays...lol And for sure not now. Any animal that feels threatened can be dangerous. They say with the dolphins your not supposed to keep eye contact with them....as they feel like its a challenge?

Well, if you ever find yourself in Grand Cayman, you can go snorkel with the Stingrays for about $40. They seem so cute and cuddly when they're swimming by. And all the guides told me was "Don't touch the pointy part by their tail"
Imagine the slough of stingray tour restriction legislation we'd have if that tourist spot was in the US... Prolly wouldn't even let us get out of the boat. LOL

One of my funnier members threw this one out: "He died as he lived... With animals firmly in his heart" heheh
Randy: I heard he was swimming behind it, and they came twoard the cameraman, so it felt trapped or something. But yeah, my first thought was that he was trying to hitchhike a swim ride on it or something.

Babe - He had two kids, a boy and a girl...
I really did expect him to get eaten by a gator. Surprized me that he didn't. Still feel for his family...

MT...thats exactly what my son said. I feel awful for his family......I know he was married and had at least one kid. But I think everyone figured sooner or later he was gonna get eaten by a gator. At least it was quick. And I wonder how many Mom's are out there telling their kids......"See what happens when you pick on animals??"

The way I understand it, sting-rays are basically a passive critter. We've all seen footage of people swimming close to them with no harm. About the only thing that would have brought on the "attack", was the sting-ray felt some sense of fear.
Damn shame. I did like the guy. But, I do have to agree with Empty. It did seem like he would mess with the critters and get them stirred up for the camera...

The media has pumped him up as being a great animal conservationalist. I really hate doing this in the memorial area of this group, but on film all I have ever seen the guy do is harras the critters he comes across. If there are any in this group that are snorkelers or scuba divers, let me pose this question: In what possible scenario could a stingray's barb ever get lodged in your heart?
