Gina, no harm, no foul...

I'm just glad that something is happening. I never knew Rusty, never met her. I had seen her ridin' around once in awhile. Hell, she was a local. So, I just want to see things done right for her.

Dave,

Please don't take my being upset over everything that has happened since Rusty passed away personally... it of course is reasonable from your perspective and I totally get that. I am not looking to blame anyone here for anything.

To the contrary I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart.

I've got a call in for Brian. I have spoken with him previously. He was the guy that originally was going to help set up a Memorial for Rusty. I put him in contact with Hellen. Somehow the Memorial part of the article was left out of the story all together. We (Hellen, Olga and myself) were all dissapointed about that because that was our reason for speaking with him.

The way he ended that article made it look like the family was then (nearly two months ago) going to finally carry out Rusty's final wish to be cremated. He knew then that the family could not afford it. He chose to write the story he wrote then and it hurt our cause, not helped our cause.

Hellen signed a Release of Medical information form for Brian but he had promised to help with a Memorial afterwards. As to date that has not transpired. We were upset by that!

Gina, when you came onboard with updates and what-not concerning Rusty, I started making some contacts. The biggest/best contact I made was with Eddie (City Editor from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, A.K.A. "efjb" here) Eddie and I talked briefly. Like he mentions, he turned it over to one of the corespondents named Brian Day. Well, Brian started diggin' in, all the credit goes to him/them for getting things taken care of. Personally, I don't know if he made a request or if just having the info prompted the coroner's office to pony up.

I did a little checkin' around on my own too. Talked to the "Neptune Society" also. I took care of havin' my Mother-In-Law cremated about 8 or 9 years ago. Back then, it was about 1/3 of the price today. They were even more expensive than the price you mentioned.

As for all the questions? Think about the situation. I (we all) had to make sure that everything was on the up and up. No offense to you. But, ya can't be too careful. So, if ya wanna be upset with anyone, I'm the guy. I'll take the blame for askin' all the questions of ya and pushin' for more info than you were probably wantin' to give...

Hey Everyone,

Because of the uncomfortable feeling I initially got from all the questions, I had not been back to this web site for about a week or so. It appeared that it was going to be another failed attempt after many previous failed attempts.

Anyway tonight I came back and I have read all of the recent posts. My question is who spoke to who with regards to the coroner picking up the tab? This comes as wonderful, unexpected news but can we verify this?

I called Hellen immidiately and will be calling Brian Day tomorrow. He works in the evening at the paper, but did not answer just now.

Thanks for your help so far, thanks for your encouragement and most especially I am relieved to know that you believe me. It's kinda different having a bunch of Harley people wondering if you're trying to pull one over on them if you know what I mean?

Any way I'll be back tomorrow night.

Have an excellent evening and as Rusty always said...

"Keep the shiny side up". I always loved that!

In this mornings paper...

Tullis' body remains in coroner's custody
Brian Day Correspondent
Pasadena Star-News
Article Launched:02/27/2007 10:50:04 PM PST

The body of Florence "Rusty" Tullis is still at the county coroner's office, nearly three months after she died.

Los Angeles County officials said the 70-year-old Glendora resident, portrayed by Cher in the 1985 movie "Mask," is expected to be cremated within the next two weeks.

"The family contacted us and asked the county to dispose of the remains," said Capt. Ed Winter.

The family can claim the remains after the body has been cremated, Winter said.

"We will hold it for one year," he said.

It will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in East Los Angeles, he said.

The movie "Mask" was about Tullis' son, Rocky Dennis. He was born with craniofacial disease, which made his head grow to twice its normal size. He died in 1978 at age 16. Her other son, Joshua, died at 32 from AIDS.

Tullis' niece, Helen Cunningham, said she plans to pick up the remains when the coroner makes them available.

Cunningham said she was pleased to learn that her aunt will finally be cremated, and her wishes carried out, she said.

She wanted to be cremated, said Cunningham, "She didn't want any dirt on her."

Tullis died Nov. 11 from injuries she received in an Oct. 14 motorcycle accident in Azusa, coroner's officials said.

She was recuperating from two broken legs and other injuries at the Rio Hondo Convalescent Hospital until Nov. 10, when she was rushed to Beverly Hospital after complaining of stomach pain, disorientation, and other symptoms. She died there the next morning, Winter said. The coroner's examination was completed in January.

Update:
Ok, I had a voice mail from Eddie this morning when I got my phone off the charger and turned it on. Battery was dyin' yesterday when I talked to him...

Eddie said that that the county was pickin' up the tab for the cremation. It will happen in the next couple of weeks. The remains will be available for the next kin (to claim within a year) at Evergreen Cemetery.

Gina, this doesn't mean that we can't put something together in memorial...

Just got off the phone with a reporter from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune named "Eddie"...

I emailed the newspaper for some info on this, he read my email and what's been posted here.

If there's more info, contact him at 626-962-8811 Ext. 2720

So, we've got a media contact.

Also, he stated that if a trust account was set up, that the paper would post details...

Gina,

Call the cremation society and find out how much its gonna cost. That way there is a goal to reach.  If I know a total, then I can help more on this end.

Randy
