Not sure which on it was. But, they owned the rights to his name and he was tired of them controlling his "Artistic" output...
Once the contract expired or whatever, he took his name again...

Prince is Prince again? Someone told me he changed his name to a color! Here is what I recall the sequence to be:
1) Roger (the black guy with a band from South Minneapolis (my neighborhood)
2) Roger "Prince" followed the single named singers like "Cher"
3) "The Symbol" Kind of Egyption??
4) The singer formerly known as Prince.......(people couldn't grasp the weird symbol......his Vincent Van Gogh stage I guess
5) Back to "Prince" a more marketable name, only to be confused with Prince Charles.....
6) "The Color" I think he then changed to "The Color" I believe his marketing team felt something unique like the artist know as "Purple" would sell records???
7) Back to Prince? I thought he was going to be known as "Fragrant" I can't keep track of his changes..
From Roger to Prince to Symbol to Prince to color to fragrance back to Prnice. Seems like he missed the other sensory element...The artist known as "Sound"
I guess at my age keeping track of the pop fartests iis like keeping track of my wallet or keys.
I give up on Prince........he is a name chameleon.
EDIT: oh yeah, he was also referring to himself for a few months as "The Artist" Guess that was an important factoid to reference.

He was cool.............an original. Michael Jackson and The "Artist formerly known as Prince" ya know that "Symbol" that now goes by what he originally was called....both emulated James B..........\
There will never be another..................
