When we had gas rationing while I was in high school, I drove an old (now) 1966 F250 with commercial plates on it. Commercial plates would exempt ya from the odd-even thing, most of the time. If they figured you were using the vehicle for regular, every day use, not business or work related, they'd refuse to sell gas to you.

I always had a wheel barrow and a shovel in the bed. Never had any problems. Got gas any day I needed it and had the money.

Funny, seems like I always ran out of gas on Friday morning on the way to school...LOL

LMAO Jeff! I got my first driver's liscense in Feb. of 1974. About that time, gas went up to about 50-cents a gallon. I thought that my dad was gonna have a stroke. We lived 2.2 miles from the driveway to where he parked at work. He was worried then. Hell, if he was alive today to see gas hovering around $3.00 a gallon, he would have that stroke!

I used to actually enjoy the gas lines during the mid-1980s. Me and my Ex-OL would get in 1970 VW bug, small bag and my bong, a few sodas and some munchies and go sit and party for a couple of hours...LOL...
Yup...I remember those days...We also had odd/even days and God help your ass if your tank was not less than half full...

I have always hesitated to jump start the bike. Too much of a chance of burning up the regulator or stator. Better safe than sorry...

I do know that jumping from a car battery, the car should not be running. But, I still don't like doin' it...

Ya might wanna try putting a jump on it next time ya cold start it, that way you can tell if it is the battery without guessing.

That's why I ain't sure it's an issue yet Jeff. I'm thinkin' the same thing. But, like the response to Marc on the battery, it is over 3 years old. So, I'm just gonna have to see how it plays out...

I don't know, thinkin' on just stayin' with Dino. Easier to get if I need a quart. I don't have the storage on the bike to carry a spare. This smells like it could turn into a Dino Vs. Syn debate...

Never thought about leaks or weeping though the cases. Everything I've read sorta says that the cases should be ok. The worst of the ones that weep are later, I think I read around 1989 and up to about 1992 or something like that. I don't remember. Just know the worst ones were later than mine and pre-Twinkie...

EDIT -BTW - Almost 500 miles and I've only added half a quart of oil. I had leaky rocker-boxes and since I topped it off after they were fixed, no more leaks. So, it's holdin' oil a LOT better than it was...
